Information security is the process of protecting data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, destruction, modification, or disruption. With the growth of technology and the changing dynamics of the business world many companies or institutions are finding more of a need to provide remote access for employees and even customers.
Several issues are driving this: a significant one is that of your carbon foot print. Why go to work when you can, if required, perform just as effectively from home. Enabling this flexibility for your employees however, does bring many other ICT issues to the table.
At Invictus Technology we have a high performance solution to enable secure data encryption for remote access directly into your company or business servers. All that is required is an Internet connected PC or laptop. Your employees are issued with a Secure Portable Office Key (SPOK) usb drive and with this they can call up any number of services or software programs that allow your users direct access to their desktops for instance.
Are you worried about data loss and having to comply with the Data Protection Act? Do you need to provide secure remote access to your servers? Do you want to stop data being taken off site on USB pen drives? We have a top class solution.

The Act applies to a particular activity – processing personal data – rather than to particular people or organisations. So, if you “process personal data”, then you must comply with the Act and, in particular, you must handle the personal data in accordance with the data protection principles. Broadly, however, if you collect or hold information about an identifiable living individual, or if you use, disclose, retain or destroy that information, you are likely to be processing personal data. The scope of the Data Protection Act is therefore very wide as it applies to just about everything you might do with an individuals’ personal details.
These principals and guidance do not only apply to electronic data but that of any data type. For instance, a school will have to process a wide range of personal data, store it and distribute it in a wide range for formats and media. This will require a school to clearly identify in the headers and footers of a doucment the appropriate levels of confidentiiality and how it should be treated. Typically curriculum or administration activities such as IEP's or school reports - information which contains elements of data which together could be considered as confidential - will require these appropriate warnings and notifications in the headers and footers.
Becta has released some very good guidance with regards to good practice in information handling in schools. This can also be applied to businesses.
The ICO has legal powers to ensure that organisations comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. It is important to note that these powers are focused on ensuring that organisations meet the obligations of the Act. Breaches and enforcement of the ACT can be found on the ICO's website. It makes an interesting read.

Accredit UK has been formed by the National Computing Centre to develop a standard for ICT business in the UK in what is a largely unregulated profession.
Quote from the Accredit UK website:
"Hundreds of ICT Suppliers are enhancing their long term future with the help of Accredit UK. With this highly regarded badge of excellence they are standing out from their competitors and continually improving their business.
Gaining this unique standard requires a business to achieve excellence and prove its commitment to continually improving. Businesses applying for the standard are provided with the tools and support they may need to maximise their chance of success."
Invictus Technology has been certified by Accredit UK for Segment 4 VASS (Value Added Solutions and Support) and the following specialisms:
- Hardware and Software Support
- Managed Services
Originally there were three specialisms in this segment the two we have been certified for (see above) and Value added Solutions. As a result of the pilot we were involved in and developing the requirements for these specialisms there has been a significant review of the standard and it now encompasses a total of 7 for the segment - Value Added Solutions and Support. We hope the draft standard will be ratified soon and we can start putting the logos on the website.
This is a very stringent, rigorous assessment and ongoing re-assessment of your general business practices and peformance and those more specific to providing ICT services to business and institutions. I hope you can feel confident when dealing with Invictus Technology that you are working with ICT professionals.
